China, U.S. launch climate action working group

The Chinese and U.S. governments have announced the launch of a new climate action working group aimed at strengthening cooperation on climate change.

The working group will be cochaired by representatives from both countries and will focus on areas such as clean energy, energy efficiency, carbon capture, and storage, and other technologies that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The creation of the working group comes as China and the U.S. are seen as two of the world's largest emitters of greenhouse gases, and as the two countries have been engaged in a complex and often contentious relationship over issues related to climate change.
The announcement was made during a virtual meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders expressed their commitment to working together on climate change and other global issues.

The launch of the working group is seen as a positive step towards greater collaboration and cooperation on climate action between the two countries, which together account for a significant portion of global greenhouse gas emissions.
