The Chinese commerce ministry has expressed "serious concerns" over U.S restrictions and crackdowns, as the two countries' top trade officials met to discuss their ongoing trade war.

According to a statement released by the Chinese commerce ministry, the U.S. has been imposing unilateral sanctions and restricting normal trade activities, which is causing "serious damage" to China's interests.

The statement also criticized the U.S for its "zero tolerance" policy towards immigration, and for its crackdown on tech companies like Huawei.

The meeting between the U.S.'s Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer, and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, is part of a series of negotiations aimed at resolving their trade dispute.

China has repeatedly stated that it wants the U.S to remove its tariffs and stop its unilateral trade actions, but the U.S has insisted on China making significant changes to its trade practices.

The two sides have been at odds over issues including intellectual property rights, forced technology transfer, and the U.S's allegations of unfair trade practices by China.

The talks are expected to continue over the next two days, with both sides expressing optimism about a possible resolution to the trade war.
