The United States and China have agreed to increase mutual visits between their table tennis teams to further strengthen people-to-people exchanges, according to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign MINIstry.
The statement said that the agreement was made during the recent visit of the Chinese table tennis team to the United States. The visit was part of the ongoing efforts to enhance cultural and people-to- people exchanges between the two countries.
"The two sides agreed to increase mutually visits between their respective table tennis teams to promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of sports," said the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin.
"We hope that the sports exchanges between the United States and China can continue to deepen and become an important part of people-to-personal exchanges between the countries," Wang added.
This is not the first time that the two countries have agreed to increase sports exchanges. Previously, they have agreed to increase exchanges in other sports, such as basketball and soccer.
The Chinese table tennis team's visit to the United States was a part of the on-going efforts to promote cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China. The team visited various cities in the U.S., including Los Angeles, New York and Houston, where they played friendly matches against local teams and participated in various cultural activities.
The U.S. side, in turn, welcomed the Chinese table tennis delegation with great enthusiasm. The U.S. table tennis community expressed its hope to learn from the Chinese side and to deepen the friendship between the two countries through sports.
The agreement to increase mutual sports visits between the U. S. and China is a positive step towards strengthening people-to-pople exchanges between the world's two largest economies.
