Xi Jinping, the Chinese President, has ordered allout efforts to search for and rescue people who are missing after a landslide hit a village in Southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The landslide occurred on Saturday in the Xinping village in Lincang city, and the rescue operation is still ongoing. According to local authorities, at least 17 people are reported to be missing.
In a message to the local government, Xi ordered that all efforts be made to locate and rescue the missing people, and ensure the safety of the villagers. He also urged officials to take measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The Chinese President has asked the Ministry of Emergency Management and other related departments to provide necessary assistance to the local government in carrying out the rescue operation.
The landslide in Yunnan is the latest in a series of natural disasters that have hit China in recent months, including earthquakes, floods, and landslides. The Chinese government has been criticized for its response to these disasters, with some accusing it of not doing enough to prevent or mitigate the damage.
