The Comac C919 is a narrow-body twinjet airliner developed by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC). The aircraft is designed to compete with the Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737 Next Generation. As of my knowledge cutoff date in early 2023, the C919 had not yet commenced commercial operations but had completed several test flights and was in the process of obtaining its type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
Participating in a rehearsal flight in Singapore would likely be part of COMAC's efforts to showcase the C919 to potential customers and to demonstrate its capabilities internationally. Such an event could also serve as an opportunity for the CAAC to conduct additional evaluations in various flight conditions, which is common practice before certifying an aircraft for commercial service.
It is important to note that the certification process for new aircraft models can be extensive and includes rigorous testing of the aircraft's systems, performance, and safety features. Once certified, the C919 will join the global aviation market, aiming to capture a share of the single-aisle jet market, which is one of the largest segments within the industry.
