A bridge collapse accident occurred at the Jianzha Yellow River Bridge on the Qinghai section of the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway, resulting in 12 deaths and 4 disappearances.At approximately 3:10 a.m. on August 22, 2025, during the construction of the Jianzha Yellow River Bridge, the steel strands broke. At the time of the accident, 15 construction workers and 1 on-site project manager were working. The sudden breakage of the steel cables caused the 108-meter steel arch rib of the bridge deck to collapse, and part of the bridge deck fell instantly.As of 18:00 on the same day, the accident had caused 12 deaths and 4 disappearances. Rescue and emergency response work was carried out intensively. By 14:00 on August 22, a total of 91 rescue vehicles, 27 boats, 1 helicopter, 5 robots, and 806 people had been dispatched, and 6 hospitals had opened green channels.After the accident, the Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government established the "82" Emergency Command Center for the Construction Rope Breakage Accident of the Jianzha Yellow River Bridge on the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway, with 7 working groups set up to promote the rescue and disposal work in a coordinated manner. The Qinghai Provincial Emergency Management Department stated that the direct cause of the accident was the breakage of the construction ropes, and the "anchor beams" broke, causing the steel cables to lose support. At present, the State Council Safety Committee has decided to supervise the investigation of this major accident, and the accident investigation work has been fully launched.
